I don't know how you feel about this topic but for me it is way too important to be ignored. Period.
Yes it is
the time of the month again when I say, “Once a month I hate being a girl!”
Trust me I’d a t-shirt with that caption.
Why do I
think menses is a social issue:
·
Because
most of the women in India still do not have access to sanitary napkins
Saying “menses” aloud is still a taboo
It is still surrounded by millions of blind beliefs

Inkchats
guys have done an amazing job by bringing in affordable sanitary pads. I feel
so sorry about the founder because his wife divorced him for this reason:
You must
check out this video:
So why am I
writing about this?
I’m in
pain! Hell no, that is not the reason..lol
When I was
in class 6th my mother had explained me something about menses. She
said, “It happens to girls, it happens once every month and when it happens you
do not go to the temple and do not eat Prasad. Do not go in the store room and
take out pickles by yourself. Etc etc.. ” All this time she referred it as “it”
as if it was some forbidden word. Ah come on, menses aren’t Lord Voldemort!
Finally
class 8 and they were here to haunt me at least once every month for all 4 days.
It was a mixed feeling. My mind said “Why are you are girl?” My heart said “This
means you can be a mother some day!” This heart-mind battle is still on.
I did
follow everything that my mom told me for sometime but could never understood
the logic, finally I googled it and decided not to follow such traditions,
which were more or less baseless and
just to take rest.
Sometime
back #Femalelogic was trending on twitter and someone (don’t want to reveal his
name) tweeted
#Femalelogic>>They
have no logic
And how
right the guy was!
If we used
logic you wouldn’t have born and the human race would have stopped right then
and there with logic..because who wants to cut herself and bring out a football
sized baby out of a hole smaller than a ping pong ball! Period.
There is a
lot I would love to say but may be some other day J
Cheers!!
The name Happy period itself revokes painful memories....that anger, irritation and all..but ya we are women with logic so only we bear it all
ReplyDeleteI swear,I mean I actually swear when I'm going through this and most irritating part is that the guys just do not understand the mood swings we go through and expect us to be normal!
DeleteShould I say Cheers?
Very very nice post and it has to spread to the mass~ Very well written and the agony is justified. I myself feels some things of nature are unjust and this is one of the things i never understood but nature has its way of balance. Keep Writing :)
ReplyDeleteNature did it's bit but humans added to it and that is a problem :!
DeleteThanks and cheers :)
Sam , the guys do understand it but are not versed to accept mood swings and that's wat irritates us more . Every guy wants to be the care taker and this time of the month is the best but only if the girl would let him around .
ReplyDeleteAmit I so wish :)
DeleteI so wish :)
I so wish :)
But ask any girl and you will know how hurt they are..
I know darling . I know . But half the guys pretend they dont know or actually dont know anything . Remaining are indifferent .
Deleteand that is the problem..
Deletevery well written. Happy periods!! it hardly passes happily though. but that's the way we are :D
ReplyDeleteHappy period :D
DeleteThanks Meenu!
Cheers to womanhood!
After reading this I can say one word Commendable. You have actually helped many girls to break the myths associated with it, for sure the main reason was only to rest, days were simple in those days compared to now as now girls are not only an subject of household, they are in every field performing brilliantly. No doubt this is the most difficult time those 4 or 5 days are most difficult, pain, mood swings irritation & to be honest u r right guys cant understand it as they dnt go through it. One needs to be very patient and atleast make no more troubles.
ReplyDeleteVery well written, keep writing and keep awakening
Totally guys do not go through this and do not understand this.
DeleteI've tried to say something which might touch some guy somewhere.
Though I've lot to say :)
Thanks
You totally wrote my feelings sam...You know what I got mine in 6th and that time i didn't know what it was and so I just did what mom said.
ReplyDeleteWhen i went to my 8th class My mother was my bio teacher and she explained the menstrual cycle...I came to know about it that time and then came the feeling Why so many restrictions? It's for a good cause after all right? And then my mom told me that actually during olden times there were no sanitary napkins and girls used to feel really weak so to help them elder ladies used to tell them to rest but it's now treated as an "apshagun". HELL with this word! i don't care I just don't touch pooja things but i sit in mandir and pray during this time too.... And I feel proud to be a girl :)
We were not explained these things in school too. Teachers were shy! This was a taboo! Hell to it.. Great going gal, I do not blv in it either.
DeleteProud of being a girl!
Cheers :)
